How to Use Feng Shui To Makeover Your Property for Sale

We’ve heard the term several times; we’re familiar with what it’s about. We’ve seen stores that promote it and read articles that talk about it. But what really is feng shui?

Feng shui is derived from an ancient Chinese poem that talks about how our lives as humans are connected to nature and how our energies flow with the environment around us. In terms of how it can be applied in the home, it is the concept of arranging pieces in a space in a way that it creates harmony and balance with the natural world. All the basic principles of feng shui reflect nature.

The concept of feng shui for the house is pretty easy to put into practice. We came up with several different tips for you for each element of feng shui.

  • Garden
  • In front of the house
  • Lighting
  • Entrance
  • Furniture
  • Accessories
  • Ambience
Garden

Garden

Maintain a low-maintenance garden by grouping separate potted plants and arranging them in a specific order. Choose garden furniture that best complements the space. If possible, put a water feature like a small man-made pond or a waterfall by the wall.

For finishing touches, add mood light for a more dramatic effect.

In front of the house

In front of the house

Make sure that the front of the house is clean and tidy. Designate a path towards the entrance of your home and repaint the exteriors, especially the areas that don’t look fresh and new.

To welcome positive energy, ensure that your door is a vibrant, positive color that serves as a prelude to everything inside your home.

Lighting

Lighting

For overhead and lamps, make sure you use high-wattage globes all of which should be in working order and are clean. If you want to put curtains on the windows, make sure they are tied so as not to obstruct the light coming in from outside.

Entrance

Entrance

Upon entering, make sure that the entryway fully opens inside the house. Try not to put mirrors as whatever good energies entering your home can be reflected back outdoors.

If you have enough space, you can put a tall flower arrangement or plant to include nature and welcome people as they enter the house.

Furniture

Furniture

When you set up furniture, maximise the space without crowding it with so many items. Choose furniture that’s just the right size for the room and make it feel welcoming and cosy. If you want to put lounges, put them up against the wall; it is preferred not to have space at the back of the lounge.

Use mirrors in dark rooms to reflect whatever light is available. Remove pictures that are too big for the room. Keep a clear path from one end of the room to the other; don’t obstruct it with furniture so that the entire room will flow.

Accessories

Accessories

Only go for interesting accessories. The bolder the better, because you’ll only need a few pieces. Less is more holds true for feng shui when it comes to accessories. Do not use potpourri or dried flowers for whatever purpose as the home should reflect life.

Ambience

Ambience

Music and sound have huge effects on the overall ambience of a home. The sound of a water feature can make you feel more relaxed. Chosen scents and smell also help with soothing you after a long day. Relaxation is all about the senses so feng shui helps you balance everything.

Feng shui is a nice practice to try at home or when you are about to sell your property.
